RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW GENERATION OF BIOMASS BURNERS

EU Funding: PLN 169 375,20

Project Overview

This project marked the beginning of MK Mikro Energia’s long-term research and development programme focused on innovative biomass combustion technologies. The objective was to develop a new generation of biomass burners specifically designed for the efficient combustion of agropellets and other lower-quality biomass fuels.

At the time, conventional pellet burners were primarily designed for high-quality wood pellets. MK Mikro Energia recognised the growing need for more flexible heating solutions capable of utilising alternative biomass fuels while maintaining high efficiency and reliability.

Research Activities

The project involved extensive industrial research and engineering work covering the design of combustion chambers, burner housings, automation systems and dedicated control software. Particular attention was given to the combustion behaviour of agropellets with varying chemical compositions and contamination levels.

Prototype burners were tested under different operating conditions and temperatures to evaluate combustion efficiency, reliability and long-term performance.

Innovation and Impact

The project established the technological foundation for many of the company’s future innovations. It strengthened cooperation with scientific and research institutions and significantly expanded MK Mikro Energia’s research and development capabilities.

The knowledge gained during this project later contributed to the development of moving grate technologies, dual-fuel burners and patented combustion solutions that remain key elements of the company’s product portfolio today.
